The Asphalt
Jesus my lungs burn.
My legs ache. (knees, calves)
And turning my feet doesn’t help.
What’s it called again? Right.
Pronation.
I think my pronation is off.
That being said, impact has not been a problem.
No, I’ve always been able to absorb and move on. Tuck and roll, dodge and weave.
Resilient cartilage.
But, really, how long does that last?
We all get old.
I think that means the trick is becoming
more stubborn and less vulnerable to pain.
Then there’s speed. Honestly
it would be nice to have
more. And how unfair
is it to be lapped while trying
to focus on a quicker pace?
It’s pretty unfair.
So, forget pace? Maybe.
What did Paul say? Patience?
“We’re after more than laurels here.”
Pain. Lapped again. Catch my breath.
Repeat. Remember.
But I am improving.
I am getting better.
Amen
